Is your microwave affecting your health?

..the answer is yes!

Like I've mentioned before, I am taking steps to living a healthier, simplier life! I'll admit, at first I was completely overwhelmed with all the "health" info. There's soo much out there and trying to tackle them all at once is impossible!

So, my plan is to take it one step at a time! Once I kick one bad habit to the curb...I'll tackle another!

The first thing that is going is...the microwave!

Well, it's actually gone and Leroy's not too happy about it!

Since being married, I've been cooking on a more regular basis. Doing this, I've noticed SO many things we buy have a "microwave option" (and a few that only had a microwave option..what's up with that?). Why is everything about convenience these days?! Let's just slow down and enjoy whatever we're doing instead of rushing!

Anyways, I found out a few things that might change the way you look at your microwave and I though you guys would enjoy it!

Ever wonder exactly how that thing heats up food so quickly?

Microwaves heat food by causing water molecules in it to resonate at very high frequencies and eventually turn to steam which heats your food. While this can rapidly heat your food, what most people fail to realize is that it also causes a change in your food's chemical structure

Oh, that's not good!

1. Microwaving food can also eliminate some of the nutrients in the foods you're preparing. That super healthy dinner you've worked so hard on isn't so healthy anymore!

2. Carcinogenic toxins can leach out of your plastic and paper containers/covers, and into your food. I'm in the process of swithcing all of our plastic food storage containers to Pyrex.

3. Raidation leaks. Even though the newer model microwaves don't leak radiation as much as older models, there is still a small amount of leakage.

At our house, we tossed the microwave and are now using a toaster oven to reheat any foods we eat. So far, I love it! I don't have to turn on the oven but I can stay away from the harms of microwave!

Have you ever realized the cons of microwave use? Do you still use your microwave?

What's the Purpose?

Hey guys!

I know it's been SO long since I've blogged and I'm so sorry! I promise I'm back this time! :)

I've been struggling with what to call the actual purpose of Living Sweetly! I feel like there's so much I want it to be but I don't want it to because an unorganized mess! I've decided the best way to categorize it would to call it a "figure out this whole wife/homemaker life and trying to improve our health!" Phew, pretty long!

Even though I've been at the wife thing for a good 9 months, it's hard! Obviously, I've never done this before and I'm just learning as I go!

If you have any tips on how to manage a house while working/schooling, PLEASE let me know! I'd love to hear from you!

How long did it take for you to get the hang of taking care of a house?

Hope you have a great day!

Kelli :)

Wedding!

I told you I would post some pictures from our wedding & honeymoon, so here we go!

We were married in May at a historic plantation home in our hometown. I can't get over how much I am IN LOVE with this house and it's charm. :)

Leroy and I have been together for 7 years before we were married So to say the least, we've been looking forward to this day for a LONG time! When it finally came, it was so surreal! I'm so blessed to be married to my best friend and get to do EVERYTHING together!

This is Leroy! He's a southern (REALLY southern!), sweet goofball! He's always in the best mood and is always joking around! He truly is the best man I know (well, a tie with my dad :))! He will do anything for anyone, and give you the shirt off his back. One of the most genuine, down to earth people I know! Love him so much!

I'll spare you with all my talking about the wedding pictures and just let you have a look for yourself :)

Leroy's dad...looks just like him!

Such a wonderful day!

Have a great day!

Hi!

Welcome to Living Sweetly!

Let me introduce you to my little family! :)

This is me and my brand new HUSBAND! We were married May 21, 2011, and we're loving every minute of our new lives together! And like they all say...it really is a learning experience but we're having the times of our lives!
Leroy works at a local steel mill and I'm in my junior year in college studying Public Relations. So to say the least, our lives and schedules are crazy!

This is our new furbaby, Finn! We rescued him from our local animal shelter and he fits right in! He's a Miniture Doberman Pinscher with the SWEETEST (most of the time) little personality and is the biggest cuddler ever! We actually got him a few days after we got back from our honeymoon. Totally unexpected!

I'll post some wedding pictures and honeymoon pictuers later! Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!
